Ministries

Baptism imageAdult discipleship exists to instruct and train men and women in the ways of Christian faith. This ministry is not intended to simply convey information about what it means to be a Christian, but rather to call and challenge adults to a greater maturity of faith– to a deeper and more meaningful knowledge of God.  Our vision is to see adults, via good Christian instruction, become more effective disciples of Jesus Christ. Adult discipleship classes meet on Sunday mornings during our Sunday School hour.  Classes meet September to June.

Children’s ministry is an essential and exuberant part of our Christian mission. Simply stated, our purpose is to provide for our children’s instruction in the Christian faith. Sunday School classes meet from September to June. Presently we have four class levels:  pre-kindergarten, Kindergarten/1st Grade, 2nd/3rd Grade and 4th/5th Grade. Vacation Bible School is held each summer in July.

The Hospitality Ministry is an important ministry in any church, especially one that is actively seeking to grow. We seek to welcome and care for visitors and to support the fellowship of our present congregation.  Our vision is that people feel great about coming to our church and that they want to invite others.  This ministry includes a “Greeter” service to attend to worshipers before, during and after our service.  We also coordinate fellowship activities.  One further service is our “new resident” mailing initiative.

People asking for God’s help and for guidance in life and faith, and doing this in an earnest and committed way, is an apt description of our Prayer Ministry.  The purpose of this ministry is to discern God’s will for this church,  to seek God’s touch for the people of this church and the world, and to be empowered by the Holy Spirit to accomplish their objectives.  We have space in the Sunday worship bulletin for those in special need of prayer, a box for confidential prayer requests and midweek Prayer Services on Wednesday night.   This ministry’s hope is to see prayer firmly established, in all of its possibilities, as the backbone of this church’s life and mission.

The Servant Ministry exists, in part, to promote and support the work of local ministries and charities such as Loaves and Fishes, as well as national and international organizations that seek to provide care and assistance to people lacking the basic necessities for a healthy life.  In the future, our goal is to expand opportunities to serve others and to involve the people of our church in this service for the purpose of living out our call as Christians to love and support those in need.

God has graced His people with immeasurable bounty, resources that are ours to use as we live and do God’s work. The Stewardship Ministry exists to educate the people of Shepherd of the Valley in the biblical concepts of stewardship and to solicit contributions of time, talent and treasure to the mission and ministry of Jesus Christ through the church. Our vision is that Shepherd of the Valley will always have the resources available to extend our ministry and service to others in the direction God leads us.  We strive for this goal by organizing the annual solicitation of pledges and leading fundraising efforts for special projects.

The Worship Ministry exists to ensure that our worship experience fulfills the spiritual needs of our people in a manner consistent with the teachings of our faith.  The ministry’s purpose is to facilitate worship so that it can be everything we believe God would desire it to be. Our vision is to see our entire congregation raising its voice in praise to God through the many and various elements of Christian worship. Current responsibilities include preparation of worship settings and bulletins, music support, coordination of special worship events and management of worship supplies.

Modeling and teaching the love of God with teenagers is what youth ministry is all about. Our mission is to provide a Christian community of teenagers and adults which attracts teenagers, nurtures them to an authentic personal relationship with Jesus Christ and challenges them to change their world by the demonstrations of God’s love.  Our Youth Ministry involves confirmation ministry for students from 6th grade through 8th grade (2nd and 3rd Sunday from 5:30 to 7:00 PM), older youth are invited to Big House Youth Group (1st and 3rd Sunday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM).
