ALTA Renaissance Wind Trio

Per sonar logoOn Sunday, March 3 at 3 p.m. Music at Trinty presents the ALTA Renaissance Wind Trio.  Alta’s unique sound and innovative programming has been delighting audiences throughout the Northeast for over twenty-five years.

While music of the late renaissance remained predominantly vocal, more and more composers were writing music “per sonar”, to be played. Canzonas, ricercari, fantasias, capricci, as well as vocal music, were performed instrumentally by wind and string bands throughout Europe. In this concert, Alta will perform  (with special guests Dr. Charles Turner and Craig Dorschel) an assortment of this wonderful repertoire on recorders ranging from soprano to contra-bass, shawms, dulcians, trombones, crumhorns, flute and percussion.

Maundy Thursday Celebration at SOV

Maundy Thursday Celebration
March 28th at 6:00pm

The Seder is the Jewish Passover meal that Jesus celebrated with his disciples in the upper room on the day that we Christians now call Maundy Thursday. Since 1993, we at Shepherd of the Valley have begun our Maundy Thursday observance by telling the story of the Jewish exodus and deliverance from slavery in Egypt. We follow a Haggadah, a narrative which combines the traditional ritual of the Seder with a focus on modern day examples of enslavement and freedom. A Ministry in Action

A Thank You from Newtown CT

The Shepherd of the Valley Prayer Shawl Ministry received a “Thank You” note form the the Prayer Shawl Ministry Coordinator of St. Rose of Lima Church in Newtown, CT for their act of kindness and caring.

Letter of Thanks from Newton CT - SOV- Prayer Shawl MinistryThe Prayer Shawl Ministry was blessed with three extra shawls that were not designated at the time, so when the Newtown tragedy struck, we prayed over the shawls and sent them to this Catholic church, which had at least 7 members who were killed in the shooting.  We were so moved to be able to send them to the church, as we usually have no extra shawls, so we felt it was God’s doing.  It was a small gesture for us to reach out, making us feel better somewhat, also.

Atonement – Adult Discipleship – SOV

Thinking about a New Year’s Resolution?

If someone asked you to define the Atonement and indicate why it might have been necessary or what was/is its significance, what would you say?

How would you compare God’s action in the Atonement with his direction to Hosea to redeem his wife Gomer?

How do sin, forgiveness, the Atonement, and a personal relationship with God fit together? Continue reading Atonement – Adult Discipleship – SOV

Worship Ministry News

Four of our youth have Affirmed their Baptism on October 28.  The Rite included a ceremonial passing of the Word of God from the oldest generation on down to the youth themselves.  It also included a special sharing from the youth about their personal connection with God and a “Thank You” to those who have inspired them on their journey.  Quite emotional!
